Just a short review of penny royal. There were notes of charges of 250 to get room cleaned. I didn’t ask if that was extra cleans Launceston seem a pleasant reasonably small city. Suited me fine. Had a wonderful day with family we ate a a bar in Charles street over from target. Beautiful food. Even burgers I normally wouldn’t eat were delicious. Sorry I can’t recall the name. But it was loverly and we sat outside an had a drink and shopped for a couple of hours We stayed at penny royal. Very unusual and quaint. A lover very happy would go back

Beautiful old buildings everywhere, friendly people, walkable and lots to see and do. Great food and shopping. All meals memorable from coffee shops to restaurants. Fantastic made in Tasmania offerings available from food to furniture. Had a memorable trip to Josef Cromney winery to do a tasting and lunch, would highly recommend. Taxi required to get there around $30 each way, but worth it. We did both a paddling and boat trip on the river both of which were good, and a separate full day wine tour which was also enjoyable.

Launceston is a great place for a holiday. You can easily do day trips from Launceston to other places, including to Hobart. The Gorge is always a great place to visit and the cruise on the river was very relaxing. A walk around the gardens and visiting the monkey exhibit is well worth the time. One of the keepers came out and happily chatted and shared information about the monkeys and the exhibit. Visiting some of the towns which are only a hour away provides rich lessons in the history of European settlement in Tasmania.

Highly recommend taking your bathers during the warmer months to Cataract Gorge you can swim in the pool or the body of water, wish I knew that!! Not much to the actual city itself but it was easy to access and park, we had a hire car which was easy to navigate. The kayaking tour was awesome fun and another recommendation. Would have loved an extra couple of days.

Very charming city with beautiful, historic buildings (we did the historical walking tour, self guided). There were plenty of great places to visit with the family, for example Penny Royal, Queen Victoria Museum, Cataract Gorge. We also toured the James Boag Brewery in the city. Parking is limited (and ticketed) in the city centre, but free parking is available at the City Park gardens and the brewery (if you are visiting).
