Buzzy Jewel of Aussie Rules

A thoroughly liveable city, Melbourne has a buzzy vibe and an Aussie sense of fun. There’s always something going on, and one of its many festivals is Moomba – Australia’s largest free arts festival. Well worth a visit are the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Aquarium, where you can walk through a clear tunnel as sharks swim over your head.

The city’s most recognizable landmark is Flinders Street Station, whose yellow and green façade matches the color of the historic Melbourne trams that still run around the world’s longest tram network. Keep an eye out for the street art as you travel.

Shopping in Melbourne is fantastic. Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market south of the Equator, while the La Trobe Street shopping center has over 300 stores. For food, don’t miss Little Italy - the Carlton area.

South of the Yarra River is St Kilda, home to the best beach and Albert Park, where the F1 Australian Grand Prix is held. However, this isn't the city’s only sports heritage. It’s also the home of Aussie Rules soccer and the MCG, a must-see for cricket fans.

Booking.com has a range of Melbourne accommodations from hotels to hostels and motels, some near Melbourne Airport.

Easy city to get around, either by public transport or just walking. Plethora of eating venues/restaurants, albeit we visited over a long weekend and the 20% surcharge was over the top, given the quality of the food presented....a real price gouge, and included on drinks , ice creams, coffee as well as menu food items. Sky Bus from airport to Spencer St Station good value. Ferry/river cruise to Williamstown a great experience, albeit again soured by the over priced meal plus surcharge at the Pier Restaurant...the fish / calamari meals were large in portions however tasteless. Lots of interesting alley ways to explore in the CBD.

Transport systems were easy to access. Trains, trams. Melbourne is safe. I ate at the hotel -excellent food. Went to galleries, museum and met up with friends. Avoid busy sport days such as cricket test matches or AFL games

I came to Melbourne for work and the room had plenty of space to spread out. It was quiet and located very close to my work place when I had to attend there. There are great restaurants and shops and supermarkets nearby and free trams right around the city. Easy to get to and from the airport by taxi, uber or Skybus from Southern Cross train station. I feel safe in Melbourne.

Very easy city to navigate... Loved the theater we attended and the art museum too. Street art is very interesting and the food market was great. Terrific restaurants and streetscapes in neighborhoods.
