During the late 1800s, the present lounge room was added to the original miners cottage to serve as the telegraph office for the town, hence the name Morse Cottage. History tells us that the original pioneers, on achieving their travels through the outback to the north Australian coastline, would have signalled their success to Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney by morse code via this cottage.
